Marijo Moore

     Marijo Moore is the publisher of rENEGADE pLANETS pUBLISHING and an author, artist and lecturer. She is of Cherokee, Irish, and Dutch ancestry, and has dedicated her creative endeavors to portraying the complicated lives and emotions of indigenous people. In 1998 Moore was named North Carolina's Distinguished Woman of the Year in Arts and in 2002 was chosen Writer of the Year by the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers for her book, RED WOMAN WITH BACKWARD EYES AND OTHER STORIES. Her newest project is to help organize The Poetry Celebration; an international ceremony for the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian, in Washington, D.C.

     Vine Deloria Jr., says of Moore's efforts:   "MariJo Moore understands the necessity of American Indians being given a voice in defining themselves through the written word. In order for Native peoples to survive, communal effort is mandatory."
